News for June
TopContinuing to GrowWe think that if the MPRC is going to continue and grow, this is certainly one way that it will happen.
TopNew Congregation in Provenir-WasparaniWhat can make a preacher happier than materials to win new souls away from the world to our Lord Jesus and to build up the spiritual strength of those who have been born again. Natalio de Los Santos and Cristóbal Ramirez, who work as preachers during the week for the clinics of Predisan think that "that is what it is all about". These two hard-working evangelists,
working in the new congregation of El Porvenir-Wasparani
(yes, it is hard for us to say also!) in Olancho, Honduras,
At this time we only have enough Bibles to give one to each family in the church that does not have a Bible. Two of the Christians have Bibles already and the other two cannot read. But we try to make sure that no one that comes to the Center goes away empty handed. Natalio, whom we have known since 1996 when he was a student at Baxter Institute, returned later in the afternoon for 2 hours to study English via an audio/visual program that the MPRC has on computer. TopNew President Announced by Baxter InstituteHoward Norton selected as next president of Baxter Institute. The board of directors of Baxter Institute is pleased to announce
the appointment of Dr. Howard W. Norton as the next president of
Baxter Institute, effective June 1, 2009.
Norton brings many years of missions, ministry, and academic experience to his new role. Beginning in 1977, he served as a faculty member at Oklahoma Christian, and later as Dean of the College of Bible. He served as editor of The Christian Chronicle from 1981 to 1996. He has most recently served as professor of Bible and Assistant Dean for Church Relations at Harding University. He has served as a minister, missionary, and elder. He serves on the board of Continent of Great Cities and World Bible School. Bob Young, chairman of the board of directors, said, "We are grateful for the work done by Dr. Steve White during the five years of his presidency, and for the progress we have made. As we build on that foundation, we are pleased to have someone with Howard's experience and skills to lead us into the future. We are especially thankful that Harding University has granted Howard a leave of absence to assist with this important work. Howard is a great team builder. His experiences in missions, ministry, and church leadership make him a wonderful mentor and teacher. His leadership and influence will bless the people and churches of Latin America into future generations." Baxter Institute, established in Mexico in 1964 and moved to Honduras in 1978, offers a four-year ministry and missions training program which attracts students from across Latin America and now has over 500 graduates working in North, Central, and South America. Baxter Institute fulfills its mission to serve and strengthen churches and Christians in Latin America by training ministers and leaders, providing resources to plant and strengthen churches, partnering with missions and educational organizations to reach shared goals, and providing a base for Latin American missions.
